The Cadac Safari Chef is one of the most versatile portable BBQs on the market and has been for many years now - this is all thanks to the innovative selection of cooking surfaces which come as standard with the BBQ.
For 2016, Cadac have taken the big step in updating this classic model in their range, introducing the Cadac Safari Chef 2 – here, we take a look into what’s changed and have a chat with someone right in the heart of Cadac.
What’s changed in the Cadac Safari Chef 2?
Well, quite a lot. It seems that Cadac have fine-tuned most parts of the new Safari Chef 2, and all these little updates add up to a big difference.
- New gas control valve – Offers finely adjustable temperature control.
- New piezo ignition – Offers safer and more convenient lighting.
- New cooking surfaces – Much improved non-stick finish, making cleaning easier.
- New sure-fit lid with stay cool handles.
- New leg locking system improves overall stability.
- New grilling surfaces have built-in diffusers, ensuring even heat distribution and consistent temperatures.
- New setup negates the need for a flame tamer, reducing cooking and cleaning time.
- Bag design is more durable and allows the cooking tops to be stored more conveniently.
- Weighs less than 4kg - A reduction of 20% from the previous model.
Although a lot has changed, certain things haven’t. You still get the renound versatility, in typical Cadac fashion, incredible portability and the ability to cook meals that you never thought you could, outdoors! Quirky optional extras are also still available like the highly-popular Cadac Pizza Stone, Paella Pan and the EN417 Regulator Assembly.
We took the chance to speak to Iain Harris, Cadac’s Sales & Marketing Director, to get more insight into how Cadac have gone about updating the Safari Chef 2…
What is it about the Safari Chef 2 you are most excited about?
The introduction of automatic piezo ignition, improved gas control (with a three stage valve being vastly more responsive and controllable than the needle valve release) and finally the much improved non-stick surfaces – all combine to massively improve the consumer experience.
The 20% weight reduction seems to be a fantastic achievement to an already lightweight BBQ, what exactly has been done to get to this?
By updating the base, taking an all metal construction and introducing a robust, lightweight, heat resistant plastic construction. Furthermore, all of the cooking surfaces are now lightweight aluminium with an integral heat diffuser. In simplifying the tops, we’ve negated the need for a separate flame tamer, hence reducing weight. The Safari Chef remains the “Swiss Army Knife” of portable barbecues - everything is included and it's easy to build, easy to use, easy to clean and easy to stow.
Remember the saying ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’? In this case, it seems Cadac have done an absolutely sterling job of, not just updating, but improving an absolute icon in the outdoor cooking industry.

Cadac Paella Pan
Give your meal times some Spanish style with the Cadac paella pan. Available in 36cm and 47cm varieties, the pan is durable and lightweight, and its non-stick coating ensures easy use and cleaning.
Cadac Pizza Stone
And now we're going Italian with the Cadac pizza stone. Withstanding temperatures up to 300ºC, this 1cm thing pizza slate allows you to cook delicious stone baked pizza wherever you are.
Cadac Regulator
This may not look as fancy as the other two pieces of kit, but the Cadac EN417 Regulator Assembly is incredibly handy, allowing you to connect low pressure Cadac BBQs and stoves that normally run from refillable gas bottles to run off disposable gas BBQs.

Yes it is suitable to use. You just need to make sure you have the correct fitting on the gas outlet to ensure the gas hose can fit to it correctly.
Hope that helps!
Or does the connection not match?
The connection will be the same as this is a universal fitting and will fit the original Cadac Safari Chef LP.
Hope that helps! If you have any other queries, feel free to give us a call on 0845 688 3667.
For spare parts I would advise contacting Cadac directly – www.cadacinternational.com – they may be able to help you out here, as this isn’t something we would have in stock. It may even be worth giving them a shout on social media – www.twitter.com/CadacUK
Thanks
Generally, on motorhomes/caravans there should be an external gas point which the gas hose (attached to the Safari Chef) will just fit onto. You may need to buy a quick release external gas nozzle here which should clip into your gas outlet on your motorhome.
With regards to fitting the hose, if you pop the end of the hose in some hot water, this will make the tube more pliable and then you can fit this onto the nozzle. Before doing this, put a jubilee clip on the hose and then tighten this when the hose is connected securely.
Hope this helps!
but when trying today the en417 regulator does not fit to 2 kg cylinder supplied by you,
I have female fitting on regulator and female fitting on cylinder.
Any ideas .

Jeff Green
The EN417 Regulator fits to disposable gas cartridges. If you have a 2kg bottle then you'll need a regulator specific to that bottle. For example if you have the Campingaz 907, then you would need a Campingaz specific regulator. If you would like to discuss in more detail with one of the team, then you can give us a call on 0845 688 3667 and someone will be able to sort out the issue for you.
. a reply to my email would be appreciated. thanks in advance
Thanks, Craig.
