Here at Winfields Outdoors, we are celebrating our fiftieth year of trading this month.
Our story began with the late Dale Winfield, and Winfields Outdoors is now led by Dale’s wife June, alongside the children Joe and Janine. We began based at Hazel Mill in Acre, near Haslingden, Winfields Outdoors first began when Dale Winfield began selling odd-sized slippers from an old Co-op building. He was initially offered a batch of odd slippers as a swap for an old crane on the back of his van. Who knew what would be in store from that moment on!
He accepted the offer, realising he could sell the slippers for more money than firewood (Dale previously worked as a tree-feller), and from there the business grew. As well as tree-felling, Dale had many jobs before Winfields Outdoors was born, starting with being a miner at the age of 14 and soon trying other things such as welding and hod carrying.
Since then, we’re proud to be able to say that Winfields Outdoors has expanded into tents, camping equipment, outdoor and hiking wear, workwear, and leisure wear.
Today, Winfields Outdoors employs more than 200 staff, and we also have stores in Chester, Feckenham, Garforth, Haslingden, Hull, Keswick, and Measham – operating as one of the UK’s leading stores for outdoor equipment. Winfields Outdoors is currently one of the largest independent family-focused outdoor retailers in the UK.
Joe Winfield wanted to share a few words with you all, commenting on the very special occasion – the company’s fiftieth anniversary.

This year marks a real milestone in the lifetime of the Winfields brand as we remain aspirational in our plans of growth, continually bettering the way we operate and the service we provide to our customers.”
