It’s easier than ever to pick up your phone and book a summer camping holiday, thanks to the sheer amount of choice we have access to online. But have you ever felt as though there’s just too much choice?

We’re here to help. We’ve put together a list of the best UK locations for summer camping, along with campsite recommendations for each spot.

Read on to discover the best summer camping spots for 2022!

The Peak District

To start, we have the Peak District – one of the best places (and most underrated!) for summer camping.

Located in central England, the Peak District is home to the first-ever national park, established in 1951 – but that’s not all this beautiful location has to offer.

If we were to choose one thing that the Peak District is most famous for, it would be its landscapes. Especially the Dark Peak, the White Peak and the South West Peak. Each location provides visitors with a ton of trail and cycleway options which lead to the most breathtaking views.

What’s more, campers who appreciate nature conservation are bound to love visiting the Peak District. The area is known for its rich biodiversity, and a third of the Peak District is home to many protected species.

Several protected species living in the Peak District are bats, white-clawed crayfish, short-eared owls, otters, mountain hares and so on.

If you’ve been looking for a summer camping spot that’ll allow you to experience a wealth of outdoor activities and breathtaking views, this is the place to go!

We recommend checking out these campsites in the Peak District:

  • Dale Farm Rural Campsite.
  • Buxton Caravan Club Site.
  • Combs Valley Campsite.
  • Knotlow Farm Caravan & Campsite, Glamping Pods & Indoor Arena.
  • Castleton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite.
  • Fieldhead Campsite.

Cornwall

Next, we have Cornwall – known to nature enthusiasts as one of the most idyllic natural attractions in the UK – and it’s one of the best summer camping spots to consider for your next outdoor holiday.

Located in the southwest of England, Cornwall has become renowned for its unbeatable choice of natural hotspots in recent years, perfect for those who can’t decide between countryside and coastal camping!

Cornwall offers a variety of places for camping enthusiasts to explore throughout their trip – including a range of stunning beaches that stretch for miles, sandy coves, countryside, rugged coastlines, moorlands, surfing spots, natural swimming pools and so on.

If we were to recommend one hiking trail to experience when visiting Cornwall on a summer camping trip, it would be the South West Coast Trail: Lelant Saltings to St Ives.

This trail is easy to complete, as it’s well maintained and approximately 7.2km long. We would recommend allowing roughly 3 hours to complete.

The South West Coast Trail will expose you to some of the most breathtaking views of Cornwall, including ocean views and unique sights of Cabrith Bay and Porth Kidney.

We recommend checking out these campsites in Cornwall:

  • Tregarton Park.
  • Treen Farm Campsite.
  • The Copper Pot Campsite.
  • Rosebud Farm Touring Park.
  • Court Farm Campsite St Austell.
  • Blue Hills Touring Park.

Gwynedd

Next up for one of the best summer camping spots this year, we have a county in Wales that’s become increasingly popular with camping enthusiasts – Gwynedd!

Located in North Wales, Gwynedd is particularly suitable for campers who plan on bringing their furry friend along this summer, as it’s known as one of the most dog-friendly spots in the UK. So, it won’t be hard to find inclusive places, as most natural places and outdoor activities will allow you to bring your dog with you.

Although Gwynedd is most famous for being home to Snowdonia National Park, it’s a pretty large county – so there are plenty of places worth visiting and exploring, especially if it’s your first time. However, as we’re talking about the summer, we’d recommend taking your trip closer to the coast.

There’s no shortage of coastal camping spots in Gwynedd – so to name a few, we’d recommend looking at Cardigan Bay, Barmouth and Conwy.

Conwy is known for being a hiker’s paradise, thanks to its abundance of coastal paths and mountain trails to choose from, which all offer breathtaking views that you need to see in person to appreciate.

So, if you want to experience a summer camping holiday in a truly unique location, we recommend checking out Gwynedd.

We recommend checking out these campsites in Gwynedd:

  • Trwyn yr Wylfa Caravan & Camping Site.
  • Cefn Cae Campsite & Holiday Cottages.
  • Bryn Morfa Holiday Park.
  • Dinarth Hall Caravan & Camping.
  • Plas Farm Caravan & Lodge Park.
  • Aberconwy Resort & Spa.

Suffolk

Lastly, we have Suffolk. The most idyllic place for short and long summer camping breaks!

Located on the east coast of England, Suffolk is known for its authentic charm, stunning landscapes and breathtaking views.

If you are looking for the perfect camping spot for family fun, Suffolk would be ideal for you. Camping enthusiasts who have chosen to visit this beautiful place have described Suffolk as a warm and friendly place with a wholesome family atmosphere.

Atmosphere aside, Suffolk is also renowned for its stunning variety of great outdoor activities and hotspots to explore. These include numerous nature reserves, nature parks and the famous wild beach of Covehithe, voted one of the best beaches in the UK.

If you want to experience unique outdoor attractions, we recommend checking out the Rendlesham Forest Centre in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

The Rendlesham Forest Centre is a family-friendly place that has something for everyone. You’ll be able to choose from loads of walking paths and cycle trails that’ll allow you to catch a glimpse of outstanding natural scenery at its finest.

The forest also offers educational tours, mobile cafes and scenic picnic spots. Oh, and it’s also dog friendly!

Aside from the abundance of children’s play areas dotted around the Rendlesham Forest Centre, there’s another truly unique experience worth ticking off the list that the kids are bound to love – the UFO trail.

Apparently,  a famous sighting supposedly took place back in December 1980! So, if you’d love to experience authentic nature and charm this summer, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Suffolk.

We recommend checking out these campsites in Suffolk:

  • Cosy Camping Suffolk.
  • Mill Hill Farm Caravan & Campsite.
  • Brick Kiln Farm Camping & Accommodation.
  • Newbourne Woodland Campsite.
  • Birds and Bees Campsite.
  • Beach View Holiday Park.
